Bored? Nothing on TV? Watch the sky!

Still images are obtained from a Sitecom LN-400 IP camera pointing up at an angle of approximately 45 degrees towards the Northern skies above Wageningen, The Netherlands. The left, right, top and bottom sides of the image are pointing up, down, east and west respectively.

Between 04:00h and 24:00h each day, a PERL script fetches one 640x480 frame every 5 seconds, automatically updating this image. At the end of each day, all jpeg images are fed into the FFMPEG video encoding utility. The resulting 320x240 videos are kept for 7 days before being deleted.

Playing these time-lapse videos at 25 frames per second results in a 125 fold speed-up compared to real-time - 20 hours worth of jpeg images are compressed into a 9.6 minute video clip.
